Just wanted to explain the photo I posted to Alfred's page. I am the GG Grand son of Emily Reynolds Chappell Ellington and Sandy A. Chappell her first marriage. My great grandmother is Serena Aldora Chappell Vaughn their child. If Alfred is Emily's son then he is also Serena's brother and had to be born before the year date on his headstone, 1868, but that is a possibility and I wanted to add some evidence that it is with photo and caption below.
"Though the headstone indicates a birth date of 1868, Alfred indicates to the 1930 census taker that he is 70, ie born 1860. Also, if his mother is Emily Reynolds as it is believed, and his name is Chappell then he was necessarily born before 1862 as Serena A. Chappell was born Feb 9 1862 and her father Sandy A. Chappell was killed at the Battle of Murfreesboro 12-31-1862. Therefore this gives strong indication that the headstone is incorrect and his birth date is actually in 1860."
