Funeral rites Said for Mrs. Jacob Ritchey, 88, Mother of Mrs. E.M. Moak and Ned Ritchey Passes Away on Saturday: Mrs. Jacob Ritchey, 88, one of Lincoln county's best known and most exemplary residents, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.M. Moak, on North Church Street, Brookhaven, Saturday morning. She had been virtually an invalid for a year and a half and had been cared for at the home of her daughter nearly the whole of that time. A devoted wife and mother, an inspiring Christian character, Mrs. Ritchey in her declining years was the object of the tenderest solicitude upon the part of the splendid family she had reared, and relatives who had come under her benign influence. Distance meant nothing to members of the family where she was concerned, and visits from out of town kindred cheered her at frequent intervals. Mrs. Ritchey was born in Charleston, S.C., to James Madison Johnson, manager of a large plantation near that city, and Mrs. Johnson, the former Elizabeth Tompkins. In the interest of his wife's health, Mr. Johnson brought his family to South Mississippi, becoming a pioneer settler in the Brookhaven-Monticello area. Mrs. Ritchey, then Sarah Jane Johnson, became the wife of Walter Sartin of Wesson, a member of a well known family connection. After his death she united in marriage with Jacob Ritchey, a prominent citizen of the Fair River neighborhood. She was an active member of the Fair River Baptist Church, and valued in her home community and county throughout her long, useful life. At her funeral, held Sunday afternoon at the Perkins Funeral Home, Dr. S.H. Jones, pastor of the First Baptist Church conducted the service, assisted by Dr. J.A. Taylor, former pastor. An impressive tribute was paid her life and influence. Favorite hyms, What a Friend We Have In Jesus, and Abide By Me, were sung by Mmes. Malcom Parkman, Dorris Brister, R.S. Pursed, and Lee Martin, with Mrs. Cabye E. Byrne as accompanist. Exquisite floral offerings expressed regard and sympathy. A large pall of caila lillies, carnations, roses, and gladiolus in rose color and white was the offering of the family. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends, including many from a distance. Interment was made in the family lot in Rosehill cemetery, where Rev. Gill of McComb offered a prayer. Surviving Mrs. Ritchey are a son of her first marriage, Jesse Sartin of Brookhaven; and the sons and daughter of her second union, George Ritchey, Indianola; Mrs. E.M. Moak, Brookhaven; Ned Ritchey, East Lincoln; and Marvin Ritchey, Tunica. Step-sons and step-daughters are Wright Ritchey, New Orleans; Robert Ritchey, Bogulusa, La.; Mrs Lizzie Jones, New Orleans; and Mrs. John Warren, McComb, the former Miss Mary Ritchey. She leaves a sister, Mrs. M.L. Pryne of McComb, and a brother, J.C. Johnson of Fair River. Surviving grandchildren are George Ritchey Jr., Christine and Carol Jane Ritchey, Indianola; Charles Moak of Brookhaven; Mrs. Muade Sartin Furr, Wesson; Mrs. Myrtis Sartin Durr, Brookhaven; Frank Sartin, Brookhaven; and M.L. Sartin, Cleveland. Her husband, the late Jacob Ritchey, died in 1932 at the age of 93. Lincoln County Times - 12/25/1941

Grave marker has brith 1854. Death certificate has her brith May 12, 1853 & date of death 12/20/1941.
