Mable Lavina Riggs
Mable Lavina Riggs was born August 4, 1876 in Kempton, Illinois, the daughter of M.R. Riggs and Nettie (Jeffers) Riggs. As a young girl she lived with her parents in Cabery, Illinois where she was married to Raymond Riggs on February 20, 1896. Four years after her marriage she and her husband moved to Kankakee, Illinois. From 1906 to 1911 the family lived in St. Louis, Missouri. After living for one year in Alexandria, Louisiana, the family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. In 1915 they moved to Wichita. Kansas, where they lived until moving to Harris, Iowa, in 1925. The family lived in Central City, Nebraska for a short time before moving to Sioux City, Iowa, in 1929. In 1932 Mr. and Mrs. Riggs moved to Arnolds Park, Iowa to occupy the cottage that they had built in 1920. They owned and operated the Riggs and Son Hardware in Arnolds Park from 1932 to 1940. On February 20, 1956 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together.
She was preceded in death by her husband on November 30, 1959, one sister, and her mother and father.
Survivors include two sons, Arleigh G. of San Diego, California, and Paul R. of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Nettie R. Merry of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Her death came after a lingering illness on May 17, 1963, at the home of her son Arleigh in San Diego, California.
