Clarence William Buchanan, age 87, of 2175 Colorado St., a life-time Baker County resident, passed away Sunday, August 5, 1984, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 8th at 2 pm iin the Pine Haven Cemetery at Halfway. Pastor Ralph Holcomb of the First Christian Church of Baker will officiate. Intermnet will follow at Pine Haven Cemetery.
Mr. Buchanan was born October 6, 1896 in Halfway to William F and Fannie Denny Buchanan. He attended school in Lower Dry Creek in Pine Valley. It was a small one room schoolhouse. He married Eliza Holcomb in Halfway in February of 1922. She preceded him in death in 1952. He worked as a farmer most of his life, but also did some mining at the Cornucopia mines. He worked for three large horse racing tracts in California and a few years as a trucker. He retired 9 years ago due to ill health. Mr. Buchanan loved the out-of-doors and nature. He was always telling his family about some wildlife he had seen while out working on his ranch.
He is survived by his daughters Clarine Kissire ofBaker and Vivian Gilley; his son-in-law Art Gilley of boise; 3 grandchildren, Kevin Troy Kissire of Baker, Major Arthur Troy Gilley serving in the U.S. Army, and Charmel Kubik of Boise; 2 great-granddaughters and a great-grandson in Boise; 2 great-grandsons in Scotsdale, Arizona; a niece Ella Griggs of Weiser, and 2 nephews, Wayne Buchanan of Pasco, Wash., and Walter Buchanan of Richaland, Or.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, an infant son and daughter, grandson Clarence Gilley, brother Howard Buchanan, and a half-sister, Francis Thomas. Visitations will be at the Langrell-Monroe Mortuary all day Tuesday.
