My 2X Great Grandfather was a farmer in Harmony Township. He died in an accident in Easton while driving his carriage up Northampton Street. A runaway team of horses that were hitched to a coal wagon struck the carriage and my grandfather became entangled in the harness of one of the horses from the coal wagon and was drug down the street. He died a short time later at the hospital. My 2X Great Grandmother, Sarah was with him but while suffering numerous injuries, she recovered from the accident.

In an article from the Belvidere Apollo, 4.21.1893, page 3, col. 4. which details the accident, it listed the following:

Mr. Amey was seventy years old and his wife sixty-nine. He leaves besides his wife, who is the daughter of Wm H. Hamlin, three sons. Joseph, Matthew and George, of Harmony, and two daughters, Mrs. Fred Mackey and Mrs. Newman Jones. He also leaves an aged brother Hollaway H. Amey, father of our townsman J. C. Amey, and a sister Mrs. Margaret Dean.

He was an upright and respected citizen and death throws a shadow over the households of the community. He was a lifelong resident of Harmony, of which his father was a prominent citizen.
