Thomas Lord was born in England about 1633. He sailed to New England with his parents in late 1634 or early 1635 and lived in Ipswich during the early years. He was admitted as a church member in 1667-1668. His name appears on the Selectmen's records in April 15, 1676. His occupation is given as a cordwainer, a worker of leather.

He married Alice Rand on June 26, 1660 in Ipswich. Ten Children: Susannah (1659-1727) Alice (1661-1721) Thomas (1663-1749) Mary (1666-1667) Nathaniel (1666-1708) Elisabeth (1668-1669) Benjamin (1670-1671) Joseph (1670-1671) Joseph (1672-1748) Abigail (1674-1675)

He is shown on Ipswich records as the owner of several properties and appears to have had continuing ties to the town. However at some point he moved to Charlestown, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. His first purchase of land there was in 1666. One of his children was born there in that year as well. He died June 4, 1713, at the age of 80. His wife Alice died August 11, 1721 at the age of 87 or 88. In 1718 the town book (Charlestown) indicated she was one of the three most ancient widows.

Thomas' line was one of the more prolific, particularly through his son Joseph. The latter led a settlement to Dorcester, SC, and later some of his children settled in Athol, MA, and his line spread quickly to Vermont and New Hampshire.
THOMAS LORD, son of Robert & Lord, was born about 1634 (d. 4 June 1713, ae. 80 [Wyman 628, citing gravestsone]).
He married at Ipswich 26 June 1660 Alice Rand, daughter of ROBERT RAND {1635, Charlestown}.
