Francis John "Frank" Bray, 78, of Spotsylvania County died Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Bray was a retired lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army, who received his commission as a second lieutenant on the battlefield during the Korean Conflict in 1952. He received various medals and citations, including the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star with a "V" and two Oak Leaf clusters, and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf cluster. Mr. Bray also served in Vietnam.

After his military career, he retired as director of the counterdrug task force for the National Guard Bureau Counterdrug Program.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara C. Bray; three children, Francis J. Bray Jr. and his wife, Michelle Donnelly, of Africa, Michael R. Bray of Richmond and Shannon L. Bray of Falls Church; four grandchildren, Catie Bray, Michael Bray, Molly Bray and Julie Bray; and his sister-in-law, Judy Combs. He is also survived by four cats, Casper, Aisha, Ellie and Moe; and two dogs, Elvis and Brutus.

A rosary service will be held 5:30 p.m. today, followed by a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A Mass of celebration will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at St. Matthew Catholic Church.

Interment will be at 3 p.m. Friday, July 16, in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
