From the Sept. 29, 1927 newspaper:
Henry Luetkehans, Jr., died Friday morning, Sept. 23, 1927, from results of a gunshot would, at his home near St. Paul (Iowa). Just how the accident happened is not known. Mr. Luetkehans was alone at the time of the accident. A son, Lawrence, was working in the field and Mrs. Luetkehans was on a business errand to St. Paul. Mrs. Luetkehans returned home after 8 o'clock a.m. and found the lifeless body of her husband near the fence of a grove a short distance from the house. It is thought that Mr. Luetkehans took his gun for a short hunt, and that he either fell or stumbled and in so doing the gun was discharged. The gun discharged its load in Mr. Luetkehans neck and death must have been instantaneous. All circumstances point to an accident. Coroner Clements of Fort Madison was notified and send out an assistant who came to the conclusion that death was accidental.
