He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Virginia McConnell; his first wife, Irene McConnell; and a daughter, Ruth J. McConnell.
The family has chosen cremation. There will be no service nor visitation.
