Mrs. Cora Dell Gates, 73, of Houston, died Sunday in a Houston hospital. Mrs. Gates was born Jan. 17, 1892, in Houston County. She was a member of the Ivie Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Ivie Baptist Church, near Kennard, with Rev. Lester P. Summers officiating.. Burial was in the Ivie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Maxie Campbell, Jerald Campbell, Raymond Gates, Billy Gates, Tommy Gates and William Ruby Gates. Survivors include the husband, T. E. Gates of Houston; four daughters, Tina Bell Campbell and Elnor Smitherman, both of Galena Park, and Birdie Lee Walker and Fannie Sides, both of Lufkin; three sons, William Gates of Diboll, Cleet Gates of Kennard and Claborn Gates of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Lucy Coslett of Maydelle; a brother, Willie Goodson of Kennard; 28 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren. Callaway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
