Private William Brennan
Served with Co. B 5th Michigan Vol. Cavalry During the Civil War. William Brennan's war came to an end on July 5th 1863 (the day after his birthday) in a field hospital in Gettysburg after he had been mortally wounded while his regiment was battling Confederate General Jeb Stewart's Cavalry on July 3rd.
He was in General George A. Custer's Brigade.
He died of his wounds two days after the battle and was buried in a small local cemetery. His family (wife and two kids) were about to have his body shipped home until they found out that there would be a new national cemetery for the fallen at Gettysburg. He remained and was moved to the new cemetery in Oct. of 1863.

Photo was supplied by the great-grandson of Private William Brennen, Charles Brennen, 1922-89.
