Earl Weber Avery, 80 of Missoula, died of natural causes Monday, Oct. 26 at St. Patrick Hospital.
He was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Missoula to Charles Earl and Myrtle Weber Avery. He attended school in Missoula and Seattle, graduated from high school in Anaconda, and attended Montana State University and the School of Mines at Butte.
Mr. Avery was employed by Montana Power Co. and Anaconda Co. doing electrical work before becoming a lab worker for RCA Corp. in Princeton, N.J. in 1936 he returned to Missoula and established Avery Radio & Electric.
During World War II he served in the Navy's avaiation branch. After the war he returned to Missoula and continued operating his business until 1965. He then drove a taxicab until 1972.
He and Gail Fiske were married July 1, 1925, in Butte, but were later divorced. She survives in Sitka, Alaska. He married Jean Johnston on Dec. 20, 1929, in Great Falls and was preceded in death by her.
On March 14, 1942, he married Enid Davis in Hardin. She survives at the family home. Also surviving are two sons, Sam Fiske, Minneapolis, and Charles D. Avery, Helena; four daughters, Alice MacChesney, Sitka; Winnifred Adams, Townsend; Beverly Neeser, Radersburg; and Carolyn Avery, Missoula; a sister Gladys Friend, Cayucos, Calif.; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Squire Simmons & Carr Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Phelps of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Missoula Cemetery.
