Kathrine was born at 5:45 a.m., Sunday May 24, 1936 at St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital in Waverly, Iowa. Weighting in at 11 lbs 8 3/4 oz. Attending physician L. D. Jay. She was christened at home at 8 p.m. Thursday evening November 24, 1936, age 6 months. She was not taken to church on account of her Grandfather Halin's health. Her parents wanted her grandfather to see her christened and was unable to go so far from home. Her parents were her sponsors because the individuals, (Mr. & Mrs. Nels Hvitved) whom had been asked to be her sponsors had to be out of town at this time. The family lived in Greenwood, Nashua, Iowa, 1/2 mile from the "Little Brown Church of the Vale" which is in old Bradford. She was later confirmed on May 27, 1951 at Hope Lutheran Church, Ladysmith, Wisconsin.

She was instrumental in bringing Billy, her finance to the Lord. While courting, she regularly attended church and at first Billy made excuses to find other important things to do, yet as the romance blossomed, they had more of a desire to be and do things together. Both regularly attended church and Kathrine went with Billy, giving support in catechism classes prior to being baptized on April 13, 1954 at Hope Lutheran Church, Ladysmith, Wisconsin.

She was a good mother and wife and stood by her mate in anything and anywhere he went. She was active in most church activities and all ladies groups including being Hospital Axillary President at Bethel, Alaska. She studied her Bible daily and prayed lots for the family and friends. She developed lumps in one breast in the early 70's and went to medical doctors at Bethel Public Health Service Hospital. They kept assuring her it was nothing to worry about. In the late 70's she went to a specialist in Anchorage, Alaska and learned her condition was greatly advanced and had to have one breast removed. She had a rare type of cancer that the Doctors knew nothing about. She received radiation and chemotherapy, flying regularly into Anchorage to Humana and Providence hospitals.

She was an inspiration to the Kuskokwim area individuals by taking time to talk on weekly call-in programs on radio and television sharing her trials, hope and assurance that God was in control of all things, including Cancer. She lived 5 years beyond the exceptions of Specialists, with no pain or suffering. She continued to be an inspiration to everyone, family and community, right to the end. Kathrine died on January 8, 1984, and the funeral was conducted by Reverand Glynn Behrend, pastor of the Bethel Assembly of God Church, Bethel, Alaska on January 13, 1984. An organ prelude was by Glenna Lefner, and bible reading from Romans 14:8,9 was by Pastor Glenn Behrend. Scripture readings was by Steve Ronnekamp. Eulogy was by Melvin Underwood. Family members attending from out of town were Myron Jensen from Anchorage, Alaska, Bert Jensen from Kenai, Alaska. Interment was in Ptarmigan Cemetery (at that time it was referred to as the New Bethel Cemetery).
