Military born in Pirayú. He was responsible for one of the most important victories in the War of Paraguay against The Triple Alliance, the battle of Curupayty, directed by him, marked a milestone in the war, inflicting a humiliating defeat to allied forces. Also participated in the battles of Corrales, Estero Villain, the first battle of Tuyuti (24 May 1866, where he commanded huge operation against campamanto ally), Boqueron, and Willow, though his most significant work was undoubtedly in Curupayty, the September 22, 1866. After achieving the mission entrusted directly Mariscal Solano López, died of wounds received in Paso Pukú.
