Lonny Cooper has used several variations of his name: Lonny; Lonnie C. Cooper; Lonny Clayton Cooper; Alonzo Clayton Cooper, and also Alonzo (Lonzo) Chester Cooper.

OBITUARY NOTICE IN SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE: "Cooper -- In this city, Aug. 9, 1962, Lonnie Clayton, loving husband of Mrs. Jewell Cooper, beloved father of Mrs. Joyce Plath and LeRoy and Raymond Cooper."

U. S. Army, World War I Veteran - 39th Infantry Division (Delta Division) U.S. Army Arkansas National Guard deployed at Camp Beauregard at Pineville, Louisiana. The Division was designated the Fifth Depot Division on 14 August 1918. He was assigned to the 114th Sanitary Unit (formerly the 1st Arkansas Ambulance Company and the 1st Arkansas Field Hospital, Seventh Army Corps) (the Sanitary Unit assists the Medical Corps in maintaining a sanitized environment).

He was identified as Pvt. Lonny C. Cooper, enlisted man #1607143. After mobilizing, he was transported to Hoboken, NJ, where he boarded the U.S.S. President Grant on 22 August 1918. He landed in France and moved to Charost and Mehun-sur-Yeure area of southwest Bourges.

World War I was ending, and his unit began demobilization in January-February 1919. The former guardsmen boarded the same embarkation ship on 27 February 1919 and returned to Hoboken, NJ.

Pvt. Cooper's unit demobilized at Camp Beauregard between May 1 and 30 November 1919.

"The Geyer-Horne Funeral Home received word Sunday of the death of Lonnie Cooper, 65-year old World War I veteran which occurred Saturday at San Francisco, Calif. Mr. Cooper was a former Polk County resident. Funeral service and burial was held in California."

"Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Jewell, two sons, Leroy and Raymond Cooper and one daughter, Joyce Cooper, also of California; two brothers, Omar Cooper of Antioch, Calif., and S. J. Cooper of Sonoma, Calif.; two sisters Mrs. Pauline Bain of Mena and Mrs. Susie Baker of Wickes."

"Funeral services Monday, 12:30 p.m. at Martin & Brown's, 200 Sutter Street at Pierce. Interment Golden Gate National Cemetery, Visiting hours until 9 p.m."
