CIVIL WAR VET COMES TO KING AS RESIDENT
The Grand Army Home for Veterans once more has a Civil War veteran resident, the first since May 1940, when Israel Cannon, 100 years old, died here.
Henry Alexander of Baraboo was brought here Monday by his daughter Mrs Cora Biege and Dept S.V.C Dwinnell of the U.S.W.V. Mr Alexander was 98 last Oct 15.
He enlisted in Pittsburgh, PA, in 1865 when Lincoln made his call for 75,000 volunteers. After his discharge he came to Wisconsin where his parents lived and remained at Baraboo. His wife died in 1931. He has several sons and daughters.
Mr Alexander is quite deaf; is able to walk with two canes, and plans to get outside some when warmer weather comes.
Though not over-pleased to become a resident of the Home, he is now happy since nurses, orderlies and all are so good to him and he has had so many callers - "even the preacher came to seem me".
