Mom grew up in Boise, Idaho, and graduated from Boise High School in 1940. She met our father, a soldier on his way to war in North Africa, in 1942 at an LDS church dance. Dad wasn't a "Mormon" at the time, but he knew they held Saturday night dances, so he and some fellow soldiers got on a bus at Gowen Field (south of Boise's airport) and told the driver to take them to the first "Mormon" church he could find. Mom was there, dancing with her brother. Dad cut in, and they were engaged by the time he shipped out five months later. Mom joined the Marine Corps in 1943 and ended up in San Diego as an aircraft engine mechanic--she was so petite that she could climb inside an engine housing--until the war ended. She married Andy in Home Gardens, Calif. in 1945, and they lived in southern California until 1965, when they moved to Ogden, Utah, where she worked for the IRS handling celebrity tax returns and helping hearing impaired taxpayers. She and Dad moved back to California in the late '70s to get away from the snow. She loved her two sons and daughter, and helped raise a grandson and granddaughter.
