Hazel Irene Trosper McElyea, 86, of Jonesboro, formerly of Campbell, Mo., died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Born April 7, 1924, near Portageville, Mo., she was the daughter of Eutha and Robert "Uncle Bob" Trosper.

She attended Gideon School. In 1939 the family moved to Campbell, where her father farmed.

She married Arthur Eugene McEl­yea in December 1945. To this union one daughter, Lucretia Ann "Lou Ann," was born. The marriage ended in divorce in 1957.

Hazel and her daughter moved to St. Louis in 1960, where she was employed at Tower Grove Bank and then as a commercial insurance underwriter for many years. After early retirement, she became office manager for Information Systems Inc., a company established by her daughter, Lou Ann. She then became active in community affairs and served as alderman for the city of Campbell.

She served as a board member for Home Health at the Piggott Community Hospital. She was a former president of the Campbell Women's Club, a member of the Campbell Garden Club and, most important of all, a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved her Lord with all her heart and was a faithful prayer warrior.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Jr. and wife Pearl and Willard "Red" Trosper; sister, Rosalie Watson, her husband James and son Jimmy; two nephews, Michael and Richard Trosper and their mother, Buena; and one niece, Barbara Ann Trosper.

Survivors include her daughter, Lou Ann of Jonesboro; brothers, Garnett Trosper of Mountain Home and Jim Trosper and wife Carol of Rogers; sister-in-law, Irene Trosper of Collinsville, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service were held in the General Baptist Church at Campbell with the Rev. Darren Baker officiating. Burial was in Dunklin County Memorial Gardens at Kennett, Mo.
