Daughter of the late Irion and Elizabeth Craig Gillam, additionally, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Bond Gillam and a sister, Elizabeth Howard. She retired from the Bertie County Extension Office after 47 years of service. She was a member of the Cashie Baptist Church where her funeral was held on April 11, 2010, with Dr. Carroll Tarkington and The Rev. O. Wint Hale, Jr., officiating. She was survived by her husband, Oliver "Wint" Hale, Sr.; step-daughter, Len H. Joyner; ste-son, The Rev. O. Wint Hale, Jr.; nephew, Craig Howard; and an extended family of relatives.
