F. Wayne Acklen, 70, of the 1700 block of Valhalla Arch, died Dec. 28, 1997, at his residence.
Mr. Acklen was born in Archibald, La., and had retired from the U.S. Navy. He was a restaurant owner, and in the early 1970s he founded the Nashville East, bringing in country music acts, and was instrumental in the resurgence of country music in the Tidewater area.
Survivors include his wife, Joan B. Acklen; a daughter, Sharon D. Trujillo and her husband, Mike of Virginia Beach; a son, Bucky Acklen and his wife, Pam of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Bettie Ann and Mary Lynn Brunson and two brothers, David M. and Shepard Acklen, all of Louisiana; four grandchildren, Michael and Jessica Trujillo and Corey and Reese Acklen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, by the Rev. Hyman Vann and the Rev. Bill Kincaid. Burial will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Great Neck Baptist Church Kitchen Fund.
