Mrs. Minnie Lee Hodges Brantley, age 93, a resident of 5595 Hwy. 17 North, Washington died Tuesday October 5, 2010 at her home.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday October 8, 2010 at Old Ford Church of Christ officiated by Eddie Bowen. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. Ray David Moore, Freddie Matkins, Bryant Buck, Frankie Buck, J.A. Jackson and Grover "Buddy" Woolard will serve as pallbearers. Ed Bolen, Dr. Thomas Nicholson, Dr. Henry Stephenson and the Elders and Deacons of Old Ford Church of Christ will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mrs. Brantley was born in Beaufort County on March 10, 1917, daughter of the late Joseph Bainbridge Hodges and Maude Roberson Hodges. She was a 1936 graduate of Washington High School. Mrs. Brantley was employed as a salesperson for eight years with McClellan's and 28 years with J.K. Hoyt's Department Store. She was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ, Women's Christian Class, JOY Group, Circle # 3 and taught the nursery at Old Ford Church of Christ for 50 years. Mrs. Brantley was a member of Old Ford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Beaufort County Grange, volunteered at the Old Ford Ruritan Club and was lead organizer of the annual Roberson Family Reunion.
On November 29, 1942, she married Ormond Edsel Brantley who preceded her in death on November 7, 1981.
Mrs. Brantley is survived by her God Family, Sammy and Barbara Leggett; their children: Cindy Woolard and her daughter, Caroline, and Mary Ann Knox and her husband Joe and their children: Joseph and Samantha, all of Washington; close niece, Ella Mae Woolard; special friends, Mary Louise Hopkins and Gladys Roberson all of Washington and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers: Percy Taylor Hodges, Allen Roberson Hodges and Joseph B. Hodges and her sisters: Mary Betty Hodges Smith Belote Perry and Tillie Faye Hodges White.
The family will receive friends 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Thursday at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at her home located at 5595 Hwy.17 North, Washington.
