Age 76, of Braidwood, IL, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2001 at the Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. Born March 1, 1924 in Winslow, IN to the late Alfred Carl and Ola Alice (Robling) Thompson.
Roscoe was employed as a welder at Caterpillar, Inc. in Joliet, IL for approximately 30 years. He retired in 1984. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Battle Of The Bulge. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening.
Survived by his wife, Bettye Jane (Woodward), whom he married June 3, 1950 in Princeton, IN; three daughter, Janice (David) Hale of Braidwood, IL, Brenda (Clarence) Heber of Bonfield, IL and Linda Thompson at home; four grandchildren, David Alan Hale, Patrick Aron Hale, Heather (Donald) Pickard, and Andrea Trayler; two great grandchildren, Colten and Connor Pickard; one brother, Robert Carl (Gayle) Thompson of Channahon, IL; four sisters, Sarah (Kenneth) Whitman of Joliet, IL, Elva Nixon of Frisco, IN, Mary (Bud) Houchins of Oakland City, IN, and Jean (Bob) Benjamin of Evansville, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by five brothers, George, James, Leo, and Ernest Thompson, and an infant brother; and one sister, Doris Norrington.
Funeral services will be held at he R. W. Patterson Funeral Homes, Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, Wednesday, January 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. George Hendricks officiating. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Visitation Tuesday, January 9, from 5-8 p.m. Memorials in his name to the Braidwood Emergency Squad would be appreciated.
