John Jacob "Jake" Butler, 87, of Ironton, passed away Monday, April 19, 2010, at a local health care center.
The Hellier, Ky., native was born Aug. 25, 1922, the son of the late David H. and Rose Ellen McCabe Butler. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Grace Wiley Butler, who passed away Nov. 30, 1995.
Mr. Butler was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Dayton Malleable Iron Co. He was a member of the Ohio Valley United Baptist Church in Wheelersburg.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Butler; a son, Larry Keith Butler; two grandsons, Michael Howard and Samuel Butler; eight brothers, Robert Butler, Harold Butler, Warren Butler, J.C. Butler, Billy Butler, Grover Butler, David Butler and Lonnie Butler; and four sisters: Dixie Davis, Leona Butler, Rissie Butler, Carmon Sanders and Grace Sanders.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Vicki Butler of Ohio Furnace; a son and daughter-in-law, Gerald M. and Kathy Butler of Ironton; a daughter and son-in-law, Hilda and Matt Wilson of Pedro, a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Joyce Butler of Ironton; a daughter, Betty Butler of Ironton; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Larry Bedell of Lafayette, La.; a daughter and son-in-law, Faith and Michael Pennington of Maplewood; a brother, James Paul "Pete" Butler of Drift, Ky.; 23 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Brother Clayton Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in Haverhill Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. 8850. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
