Samuel Carl Barbier, 78 years of Yorkville, IL died Thursday, January 11, 2001 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, IL. He was born June 14, 1922 in Downers Grove, IL the son of the late Carl and Tina Barbier. He served with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific Campaign. Over the years he was a participant in the World War II Veterans visits to the area schools to tell about the armed forces and especially World War II. He was a member of the Wood Carver Museum of New Holland, IL, Tin Can Saliors and the wooden carvers group and a teacher to the groups at FVOAS and the Beecher Senior Center of Yorkville, IL. He enjoyed his times of going to Bill's Restaurant in Montgomery, IL to visit and talk with the other World War II veterans.
    He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Barbier of Yorkville, IL a son William Morton (Sandy) Barbier of Ottawa, IL; two grandchildren, Marci Helene Barbier of Sandwich, IL, Lane Barbier of Ottawa, IL; two sisters, Ellie Fuller of Michigan City, IN, Jeanette Martinkus of Downers Grove, IL; a brother Jake (Lori) Barbier of Belport, NY; a nephew Carl Schmidt of Chicago, IL and several other nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris Barbier and a sister Veronica Kline.
    A time for gathering of friends will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2001 at the McKEOWN-DUNN FUNERAL HOME, LTD. in Oswego, IL from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. when a time of sharing/reflection will be held.
    Memorials may be directed to the Tin Can Saliors Associations. Cremation was accorded to the wishes of the family with burial in the Pontiac, Il City Cemetery.
