Kelly came to the United States in 1946, he served in the Military Police for the U.S, Army during the Korean War. He owned several lounges and restaurants in the south KC area over the years. In 1960 he married Vada (Squires) Blessing. Their daughter Maria was born in 1962 and son Anthony in 1964.
