Also known as William Ernest Grieb. Born in the small village of Holzheim, Wilhelm Ernst immigrated to America in 1884 aboard the SS Braunschweiger. He worked as a bartender at Meyer's Hotel among other places. He eventually obtained a liquor license and opened a saloon of his own.
