Benedict J. "Dick" Thompson, 83, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Carrollton, Ky., died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Christopher East Healthcare Center in Louisville, Ky.

He was born in Bardstown, Ky. After serving in the Army during World War II, he moved to the Louisville, Ky., area for many years. He and his wife later moved to Carrollton, Ky., where he was a "gentleman farmer." After retiring, he moved back to Louisville. He previously worked in the landscaping and masonry businesses. He was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Worland Thompson; four daughters, Cindy Turner, Karen DeGaris, Suzanne Thompson and Alicia Steuerle, all of Louisville, Ky.; two sons, Wayne Thompson and Rick Thompson, both of Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Marie Dugan of Bardstown, Ky., Betty Curran of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mary Baker Baland of Beaumont, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mass of Christian burial was at St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton, Ky. Cremation was chosen. Internment was in St. John Catholic Cemetery.
