Benjamin Moore was the son of John Moore and Mary "Polly" Patterson Moore. He was born in Burlington Township, Licking County, Ohio. He married Sarah Randol in Hardin County, Ohio on 17 Nov. 1842. Benjamin and Sarah had the following 13 children:

8. Perthena Moore

Benjamin and Sarah lived in Hardin County, Ohio for a time, then moved to Fillmore, Iowa. After Iowa, they moved to Missouri for a couple of years (according to their daughter Abigail Caroline Moore's obituary) and finally settled in Clyde, Cloud, Kansas.

Benjamin and Sarah had three sons that served in the Civil War; which were George Patterson Moore, Alonzo Montgomery Moore, and John Robinson Moore.
