Dennis Eugene Myers passed away at 5:23 p.m. on April 23 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Dennis was born on August 3, 1943 to Cecil "Pete" and Elsie (Warren) Myers.

At the age of 13 months he developed polio which paralyzed his left leg and partially paralyzed his right leg.

On December 11, 1967 he married the former Betty Jean Summers, daughter of Clyde and Doris (Hammontree) Summers.

Together, Dennis and Betty had 3 Children- Teresa Louise, Richard Eugene, and Michael Wayne.

Dennis was a strong Christian and a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg, Illinois.

Dennis E. Myers, age 62 of Harrisburg, passed away at 5:23 PM, Friday, April 23, 2010 at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Dennis was born on August 3, 1947, to the late Cecil "Pete" and Elsie (Warren) Myers. He married Betty Summers in 1967 and she survives in Harrisburg. Dennis was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg. He was formerly an Accountant and Controller for Southeastern Illinois College. He was president of SCAN amateur radio, and volunteered for 16 years as communications official for the River 2 River race.

In addition to his wife Betty, Dennis is survived by a daughter, Teresa Myers Ballantyne and husband Jeff of Ashley, Illinois, son, Richard E. Myers of Harrisburg, son, Michael W. Myers and fiancé Brandi of Marion, Illinois; granddaughter, Jayne Ballantyne of Pinckneyville, granddaughter, Erika Atkinson and grandson, Gabe Atkinson, both of Marion, one brother Wendell Myers and wife Judy of McLeansboro, niece, Brenda Hagston and husband Jarrod of McLeansboro, nephew, Clyde Roberts of Nashville, Tennessee, and nephew, Mathew Roberts and wife Susan of Norris City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the Blooming Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Chris Winkleman will officiate. Burial will follow in Blooming Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM, Monday, April 24, 2010 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Harrisburg, Blooming Grove Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
