Born in Norway as Ole Jonas Jensen, son of Børre Andreas Jensen & Andrea Thomine Olsdtr. He went to sea with his father in 1872, father died at sea and he was then adopted by Robert & Jenet (Dunn) Hastie in New Zealand. Returned to Norway in 1885 for a visit. Later pastored in the Christian Church in New Zealand, Canada and Iowa. Died and buried in Albia, Iowa.
