The body of Judge John D Dills, aged 83 years, whose death occurred at the home of his son-in-law here last night, at 10:30 o'clock, will be shipped this afternoon to Sherman, Texas for interment.


The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. John P. Hird of this city and one daughter living at Sherman.


Judge Dills was a pioneer in Texas politics and at one time was a member of the Texas legislature. He had also served in the Kentucky legislature before going to Texas. He was a native of Kentucky and in the days of his young manhood was active in the politics of that state. He moved to Sherman a number of years ago and served as a county for several years he was elected to the state legislature.

John Harmon Dills died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Hird, in Shreveport, Louisana, August 26, 1919. He was the son of Nelson and Maria Dills and was born in Harrison County, Ky. December 1837.


He married the eldest daughter of General Lucius Desha and removed to Sherman, Texas, 1875. Five children survive him, Lucius, Surveyor General of New Mexico; Mrs. J. B. Hird of Shreveport, Louisiana; Mrs. Jo Burrows, of Beeville, Texas; Mrs. Herbert Chamberlain, of New Haven, Conn.; Roger Dills, of Wichita Falls, Texas. He was prominent, not only in Texas, where he served in the Legislature, but later in New Mexico, being elected to the Legislature of that state after his 75th birth. Burial in Sherman, Texas
