Bill was born December 20, 1924, in Byrds, SC, the son of William Oliver Thomas, Sr. and Farrie Bell Horne Thomas. He was the stepson of Lillian Beatrice Teague Thomas.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and was retired as the Charleston County Treasurer. Bill attended the University of South Carolina and was a member of Cooper River Baptist Church, Hammerton Lodge #332, A.F.M., Scottish Rite and Omar Shrine Temples, V.F.W. Post #5091, American Legion Post #147, North Charleston Exchange Club and a life member of Charleston Elks Lodge #242. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be the North Charleston World War II Veterans Group, the Park Circle Coffee Club and the North Charleston Old Timers Breakfast Club. He is survived by his children, John R. Thomas of Charleston, Belinda T. Swindler and husband, David, of North Charleston, and Susan T. Martin and husband, Randy, of North Charleston; five grandchildren, Miranda M. Ayer and husband, Bryan, Kerri S. Olds and husband, Chris, T. Patrick Swindler, William T. Martin and wife, Katie, and David V. Swindler; a great-grandson, Christopher Graham Olds; and a sister, Dot T. Walters of St. George, SC. He is also survived by four aunts, Virginia Walters, Edna Murray, Vera Hedrick and Caroline Wheless. He was predeceased by his brother, Francis L. Thomas. He will be deeply missed by his beloved pets, Chance and Savannah.
Interment was in Riverview Memorial Park.
