OBITUARY:
Decorated Korean War veteran, 76
William Gene "Bill" Wamsher, 76, of Sweet Home, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, in Sweet Home.

He was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Robert and Pauline Wamsher.

A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart.

Family members said Mr. Wamsher loved fishing.

He is survived by his companion, Marva Davis of Sweet Home; two former wives, Martha Gathercole of Iowa and Carol Wamsher of Astoria; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beth and Paul Weddell and Bonnie Walker of Des Moines; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean Marie and Ken Jordan of Oregon City; four sons, Bill Wamsher Jr. and his wife, Maria, and Larry Wamsher and his wife, Renea, all of Iowa, Roy Wamsher of Washington and Rex Wamsher and his wife, Rachelle, of Florida, formerly of Astoria; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six stepchildren and their families, Christy Porter, Cindy Duncan, Terry and Sue Glaubitz, Star Arlt and Mike Glaubitz and his wife, Sarah.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Wamsher in 1992; and two sons, Ray Wamsher in 1989 and Richard Wamsher in 1993.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall in Sweet Home. Inurnment will follow at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.
