Delos H. Eddy was born to David B. and Susanna Eddy in upstate New York,in a small township, Barre Center, near Albion and Medina, N Y. He grew up there with his older brothers- D.Melvin, Edwin and Edgar(twins), Oscar D. and sister Elizabeth. He enlisted 10 March 1865 in Rochester, New York ("Mustered in for Willis G. Allis of Barre, NY.") and sent to 3rd Infantry Regiment, Company F, New York Volunteers. He was at the Surrender of General A S Johnston's Texas-Confederate Army in Raleigh, North Carolina. Delos re-enlisted in 1866 and sent to Fort Omaha, Nebraska Territory to serve in the Plains Indian Wars-1866 to 1891. While there a treaty was signed with Brigham Young creating a Mormon settlement 'Cutlers Park' with the Omaha, Winnebago and Souix tribes. Delos continued to serve until retirement 22 January 1890. Corporal Delos Eddy then lived in US National Veterians retirement homes in Alexandra VA, DePlains, Illinois and Dayton Ohio, where he passed away in August 1934. His family had Delos burried in Buffalo NY at Forest Lawn Cementary, where his son and daughters lived.
