Anthony Vital, 70, retired postal worker
Anthony D. Vital, 70, of 1341 Fremont St., died Friday after a brief illness.
He retired in 1986 from the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 35 years. He worked in the Lancaster office from 1954 to 1970 and in the Conestoga office from 1970 until he retired.
From the early 1970s until his death, he was an independent contractor for Lancaster Newspapers.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served from 1948 to 1952.
He attended Faith United Church of Christ, Lancaster.
An avid bowler, he competed in leagues throughout Lancaster for more than 45 years. He was president of AMF Industrial League at Leisure Lanes.
A thoroughbred horseracing enthusiast, he also enjoyed baseball.
Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Anthony N. and Gertrude Reese Vital.
He was married 50 years on Sept 20 to Nancy J. Baker Vital.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, Lisa J., married to Earl Haas of Harrisburg; four sons, Anthony D. Jr., married to Debra Vital, M. Robin, married to Marsha Vital, Neal A., married to Barbara Vital, and Christopher B., married to Ellla Vital, all of Lancaster; nine grandchildren; three brothers, James R. of Akron, Daniel P. of East Petersburg, and David M. of Millersville; and three sisters, Dorothy Ott and Marian Hess, both of Millersville, and Gertrude Scott of Edgewater, FL.
He was preceded in death by a brother Eugene C.
Services held at Charles F.Snyder Funeral Home, Lancaster. Interment at St. Joseph's New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman.
