Mrs. Simmons Dies At Age 55
Mrs. Gertrude A. Simmons, 55, of 155 E. New St., Lancaster, died at 6 pm Sunday evening at the Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital after an illness of four and one-half months.
The wife of Levis R. Simmons, she was born in West Virginia, a daughter of the late Bernard and Anna Hoffman Reese.
A member of the Lancaster Avenue United Methodist Church, she served as a nurses aide for the past 10 years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Dorothy A., wife of Franklin H. Ott; Marian J., wife of William C. Hess, both of Lancaster, and Gertrude R., wife of Leland F. Scott, Kennett Square; four sons, Anthony D. Vitale, James R. Vitale, Daniel Paul Vitale, and David M. Vitale, all of Lancaster.
She is also survived by three sisters, Dora, wife of Harry Gordon, Sylmar, Calif.; Mildred, wife of Edward Price, Hollywood, Fla., and Hazel, wife of Paul Huber, Nanticoke, PA, 27 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Wednesday at 10:30 am with the Rep. John F. Lose, officiating. Interment in the Conestoga Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Tuesday evening 7 to 9 pm.
