Jack Morgan Childs, 82, of Marlin, entered into rest Tuesday, April 27, 2010, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at First Baptist Church in Marlin with the Rev. Greg Traylor and the Rev. Eric Moore officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church sanctuary.

Jack was born in Marlin, Texas, to the late Hugh B. and Maudie Morgan Childs. He married Mary Ellen Kirkman on June 27, 1953, at First Baptist Church in Marlin. He served in the U.S. Air Force over 20 years, retiring in 1970. He was an active member of First Baptist where he served as a deacon and enjoyed his service on the building and grounds committee. He was a member of the Marlin Lions Club. His greatest joy was the family the Lord gave him.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh, Lionel, Darrell and John "Sonny".

Survivors include his wife, Mary; son, Al Childs and wife, Beverly, of Dallas; daughters, Jackie Brown and husband, Scott, of Longview, Karen Gillum and husband, David, of Murphy, Jo Ellen Dunlap and husband, Ben, of Riesel, and Nancy Traylor and husband, Greg, of Beeville; grandchildren, Paul Childs and wife, Lindsay, Mark Childs, Brad Brown and wife, Jennifer, Sarah Beth Sage and husband, Cody, Jeff and Kara Gillum, Mindy, Wesley and Ashton Dunlap, Caleb, Graham and Abigail Traylor; four great-grandchildren; brother, Don Childs and wife, Joyce, of Houston; sisters, Joy Davison, of Bryan, Patsy Swenson and husband, Arnold, of Groves, and Betty Cunningham and husband, Bob, of Marlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
