At the time of his death, he was survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lusha Hendrix, Mrs. Elizabeth Gray, and Mrs. Fannie Bell Karr, and two brothers, Ernest Gilstrap and Arthur G. Gilstrap.
His funeral service was held on Thursday, December 21, 1944 at Calumet Baptist
Church, conducted by Rev. Earl Sargent
and Rev. Herbert Ayers.
Burial: West View Cemetery in Liberty.
He was laid to rest next to his young wife,
who also died of TB nearly four years earlier.
