Lloyd W. Mowery, 81 , retired machinist
Lloyd W. Mowery, 81, of 708 Hilton Drive, died Thursday at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a lengthy illness.
Prior to retirement in 1981, Mowery worked for 46½ years as a machinist at MAC-IT Co., Lancaster.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in central Europe. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal with one bronze star, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign World War II Victory medal.
He was a member of American Legion Post 34 and a charter member of Hempfield United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed hiking.
Born in Gordonville, he was the son of the late Jesse R. and Elizabeth K. Werner Mowery.
He was married 51 years in March to Elizabeth A. "Betty" Snyder Mowery.
Surviving besides his wife are a son Stephen L., of Lancaster; two granddaughters; and three sisters, Hazel Leayman and Miriam Kimmich, both of Lancaster, and Dorothea Brubaker of Manheim.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Woolverton and the Rev. Thomas Fries officiating. Interment in the Riverview Burial Park, Lancaster. Friends may call on Monday from 7 to 9 at the Charles F. Snyder funeral Home, Inc., 414 E. King St., Lancaster. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
