US NAVY - WORLD WAR II, KOREA, VIETNAM


CAMP, Thurlow W., 81, of Nicholas Brown Yard, died Thursday at The Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth H. (Kennedy) Camp. They had been married for 58 years.


Born in Hutchinson, KS, a son of the late Fred W. and Blanche (Blanpied) Camp, he had lived in the city for the past 58 years.


Mr. Camp was a 21 year Navy veteran, retiring with the rank of Head Medical Corpsman in 1963. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. A life member of the American Legion, he was a past Commander of Roger Williams Post #35 in Providence and a former 4th District Commander for the American Legion. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve, Branch 42 in North Kingstown.


After his military career, he worked as an X-ray technologist at Roger Williams Medical Center for 10 years. He retired in 1985.


Besides his wife, he leaves two sons John J. Camp of Providence, and Patrick M. Camp of Pawtucket; two daughters Carol A. Fortin of El Paso, TX, and Sharon E. Camp of Mansfield, MA; a sister Joanne Reeg of Columbus, OH, five grandsons, and 2 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Robert E. Camp and the brother of the late Robert and Elizabeth Camp and Janice Callas.


His funeral was on Monday at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name Church, 99 Camp St., Providence. Burial, with military honors, was in R.I. Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
