Raffaele B. "Chic" Cicchetti, 79, of Beech Avenue, Cranston, a retired supervisor of transportation, died September 8, 2004, at home. Born in Providence, a son of the late Celistino and Italia (Mendozzi) Cicchetti, he had been a Cranston resident for most of his life.
Mr. Cicchetti was employed as supervisor of transportation at Quonset Point Naval Air Station in North Kingstown and Fields Point in Providence for 30 years before retiring.
He was a WWII U.S. Marine Corp veteran and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and participated in action against the enemy at Guam. He also was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War and held the rank of Sgt.
A communicant of St. Matthew Church he served as an usher and facilities manager for 20 years and was a member of its former Holy Name Society. He served as a volunteer for St. Matthew School Band and the Young Rhode Island's Orchestra. He was a member of the union at Quonset Point Naval Air Station where he served as secretary and was also a member of the Cranston Council Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by a son, Charles J. Cicchetti of East Greenwich; five daughters, Mary-Jo Byrne of Bronx, NY, Christine A. Glasser of Woodbourne, NY, Elizabeth A. Chavas and Paula M. Bashaw both of East Greenwich and Maureen F. Cicchetti-Davis of Cranston; three sisters, Clara F. Cicchetti, Giovanna "Jennie" DeAngelis, both of Cranston and Gloria Mercer of North Kingstown; a brother, Raymond D. Cicchetti of Providence; and eight grandchildren, Laura K., Aidan C., Cian M., Gianna M., Timothy J. "TJ", Raffaele B., Daniel G. and Jack F.
The funeral was held at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Matthew Church, Elmwood Avenue, Cranston. Burial with military honors was in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Matthew Church, c/o 15 Frances Ave., Cranston, RI 02910 would be appreciated.
