Grace M. "Josephine" Hazard, 81, of Luther Street, a nurse supervisor at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, before she retired, died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of the late Luke F. Hazard Sr., and the late Jesse Mason. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Henry E. and Grace J. (Abrams) Marshall, she had been a resident of Warwick, Providence and New York for 20 years before moving to Jamestown 30 years ago. She had also been a psychiatric nurse in New York. She helped coordinate the Providence Health Center, and train its workers. She was a member of First Tabernacle, Providence, and its Daughters' Quorum as Mary, the Daughters of Jerusalem, and the Sisters of Mercy, and had been treasurer of the Daughters' Quorum of the Israelites. She also taught Sabbath School. Mrs. Hazard had been active with the Jamestown Community Theater since 1992. She was a graduate of Hope High School and New York Nursing School. She leaves a daughter, Ruth G. Mason of Jamestown; a stepdaughter, Paula Oliver of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Edwina Crippen of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in First Tabernacle, 105 Dodge St., Providence. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
