**Alaska businessman (Automotive) from the early days of Anchorage and Fairbanks**

Graveside services for Cecil M. Wells of Fairbanks will be held in Anchorage tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. Friends who wish to pay their respects may call at the Anchorage Funeral Home between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Wells was born in Litchfield, PA., on Oct. 27, 1902. He came to Alaska in 1924 from Spencer, N.Y., where he had been in the automotive business with his father, Winfield Wells.

He established the Wells Garage in Anchorage and for many years was the General Motors distributor for all of Alaska.

In 1939, he sold his business here, which later developed into Alaska Sales and Service, and moved to Fairbanks where he established Wells Alaska Motors.

Aside from his automotive business, he was actively interested in many other ventures, including mining, aviation, and numerous projects for the development of the territory.

At the time of his death, he was was president of the All-Alaskan Chamber of Commerce, road commissioner of the Fourth Division, and a director of the Bank of Fairbanks.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his widow, Diane, and son, Marquam; his mother, Mrs. Frances Wells and a son, Wendell, all of Fairbanks. Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James Rafferty of Hermiston, Ore., and Mrs. Norman V. Corey of Inkom, Ida.; two sons, Clayton of Lawndale, Calif. and Cecil Jr., of St. Paul, Minn., a sister, Mrs. Clarence Westerbrook of Fairbanks, and two brothers, Ralph F. Wells of Anchorage and Max H. Wells of Valdez.

He has seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

**Cause of death: Murder (gunned down); presumably as the result of a conspiracy involving his wife and her lover.
