A Prominent and Respected Citizen of Cayley District Passes Away After Brief Illness.
The death occurred at Calgary on Saturday, October 28, of Mr. J. W. Campbell, a prominent and respected citizen of Cayley district, after a brief illness. The deceased gentleman has been residing the past year at Victoria with Mrs. Campbell and was here on a visit when death summoned him.
When he became ill his wife and daughter, Mrs. G. Sloane, of Victoria, were notified of his serious condition and they were at his side with other members of the family at his death.
Mr. Campbell came to the west in 1905 from Tilbury East, Kent county, Ontario, and located on his Cayley farm with his family in 1907. Back in Ontario he was always identified with municipal and federal politics, being reeve of his township for several years. He was not long here when he became reeve of the Cayley local improvement district and was besides identified with other organizations in the district. The late deceased was an upright and progressive citizen and had the courage of his convictions and was held in high esteem by his neighbors and friends. He leaves a widow, two daughters, Mrs. G. D. Sloane of Victoria and Mrs. Dave Halliday of Cayley and son Gordon W. to mourn his loss. The funeral took place on Monday, October 30...[rest illegible]
