Janette's birth certificate lists her middle name as "Aldene" but later on she dropped that name and used initial "M" for her maiden name "Mitchell".
Janette was a school teacher and always enjoyed working with and being with children. Learning was very important to her. She received an award from the state of Idaho for her early and continued work with Special Education. Janette was one of the organizing teachers for Lewis-Clark Opportunity School in North Lewiston.
She believed in the importance of a college education and her sister Celia claimed that she probably wouldn't have gone to college without Janette's encouragement.

Janette Perkins, 84, retired Lewiston Teacher
A funeral for Janette Mitchell Perkins, a long-time Lewiston area teacher, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church at Lewiston. The Rev. J. Stanley Lyman will be officiating. Burial will take place at Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston.
She died at age 84 Sunday of congestive heart failure at Manor Care Nursing Home at Spokane.
She was born Aug 1, 1911, at Marysville, Idaho, to J. C. and Mabel E. Mitchell.
She attended the College of Idaho at Caldwell and in 1931 she began attending Lewiston State Normal School at Lewiston. Her first teaching job was a one room schoolhouse in the Selway and Lochsa area.
She married Ralph W. Perkins June 14,1934, at Wilder, Idaho.
After their wedding they lived at Lewiston and she served in various positions at First United Methodist Church at Lewiston, including Sunday school superintendent, from 1947 to the mid-1960's. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho at Moscow in 1965.
She taught kindergarten in her home and was among the people to establish special education programs in the Lewiston School District. She helped form the Lewis Clark Opportunity School and taught there and at Garfield and Centennial schools, all at Lewiston.
She retired in 19070 and was honored with a Certificate of Recognition from the State of Idaho by Gov. Cecil Andrus in 1974.
They moved to Spokane in 1981 and her husband died in 1983.
Survivors include three sons, Louis M. Perkins, Donald J. Perkins, and David N. Perkins; two sisters, Celia Anderson, and Josephine Vann; one brother, Robert Mitchell; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nora Mitchell and Mary Ellen Hamilton; and two brothers, Richard M. Mitchell and John C. Mitchell.
