Elizabeth was the wife of Benjamin Winter. Benjamin died in 1829 in Fairfield county Ohio. They had 5 children Samuel (1817-1902), Esther (1821-1911), Elijah M (1823-1898), Isaac (1826), and Benjamin Jr (1829).

Elizabeth is buried in Masonic Cemetery in Cedar County Iowa in the same marker as Esther Winter Lee. On the Cemetery records it says mother of Mrs. Rev WM Lee. After Benjamin's death she married Solomon Smith 28 Jun 1831.

Note about background by Larry Wassmann a ggg grandson:

One of my maternal grandmothers, was quite a mystery after her death. Her name was Elizabeth Smith (at least that is what it says on her headstone) is buried in the Tipton Iowa Cemetery. It says on the cemetery records that she is the mother of Mrs. Rev. William Lee, who is another of my grandparents. I am sure of the linkage of her, to me.

Anyway Mrs., Lee is Esther Lee wife of Rev. William Lee. Esther's maiden name was Winter. So if Elizabeth Smith is her mother than she must have had the name of Winter at one time.

Most genealogists doing research on this line have the father of Esther, and husband of Elizabeth as Benjamin Winter. But I have not found, census or historical records stating that Elizabeth was Benjamin's wife. Elizabeth's fathers name was Christian Miller. A Revolutionary Soldier, who was born in Pennsylvania. He died 24 Feb 1808 in Pleasant Twp, Fairfield County, Ohio. Buried 7 April, 1808 in Cedar, Iowa.

The name on her headstone is Smith so it can be assumed that somewhere down the line she married a Mr. Smith. The mysterious Mr. Smith was discovered to actually be Solomon Smith who she married 28 Jun 1831. A Lee family member had the records about this marriage and forwarded them to me.

Now the two little children who are buried with her are her great granddaughters. They were the daughters of Watson C and Margaret Belle (Lee) Schriver. Their names were Maggie and Ruth Schriver. Margaret Belle was the daughter of Esther Winter Lee.

So much of the mystery about Elizabeth Ann Miller Smith has been solved.
