John W. Brady served as a CM 1 (Carpenter's Mate 1st Class) in the United States Navy Reserve during World War II.

He was a son of Jacob Francis Brady and Mary Ellen Gertrude (McCall) Brady.

He entered active service with the U.S. Navy on October 22, 1943 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He received his discharge from the Navy on January 30, 1946 at Bainbridge, Maryland.

He was originally from Buchanan Valley/Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

He was never married.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on January 15, 1959.

JOHN W. BRADY DIES MONDAY; ILL LONG TIME

John W. Brady, 46, died Monday night at 10:05 o'clock at the home of a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brady, 50 W. Middle Street, with whom he had resided. He had suffered from cancer for a long time.

A native of Franklin Township, he was a son of the late Jacob Francis and Mary Ellen (McCall) Brady.

He served as a Carpenter's Mate first class with the U.S. Navy from October 22, 1943 to January 30, 1946, and was a member of the Albert J. Lentz American Legion Post of Gettysburg.

For 18 years he served as a construction worker, principally as an expert operator of heavy construction equipment. His work, mostly on U.S. Government projects, took him to all parts of the world, often to serve as an instructor in the operation of heavy equipment in Australia, Puerto Rico, Africa, and elsewhere. Among the projects on which he worked were a number of airports.

Surviving are two sisters and four brothers: Mrs. James McKenrick, Fayetteville R. 2; Mrs. Curtis Cullison, Baltimore; Paul Brady, Mansfield, Ohio; Clement Brady, Mantua, N.J.; Eugene Brady, Gettysburg R. 2.; and Louis Brady, with whom he resided.

The family has asked that flowers be omitted and suggests donations to the cancer fund.

Funeral services at the Bender Funeral Home Thursday morning at 10 o'clock with the Rev. Francis Reinberger, Gettysburg, officiating. Interment in Gettysburg National Cemetery with military rites by the Lentz Post of the American Legion. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock at the funeral home.
