Mrs. Malone graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Social Studies. She worked for a number of years as a legal secretary for her father's law firm until his death. She was married to the late Buford Gaidry Malone , Jr. She was one of the founding parents of Piedmont Academy where she served on the Board of Trustees for many years. When Piedmont needed a librarian, Gwen got her Library Science degree from Georgia College and was Piedmont's first librarian.
She was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church where she was Sunday school teacher in the Beginner Department for many years and continued to be active in the WMU. She was a member of the Monticello Garden Club and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a board member of the Jasper County Hospital Authority and Hunter Pope Country Club. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
