Robert T. Bagby died in his sleep Thursday, Aug 19, 2004, at Avalon Square in Waukesha. His last evening was spent dining with beloved sisters, Beth Aulik and Marguerite Bralick, and dear friend John Pugh.

He was born July 24, 1917, in Antigo, to Zackary Taylor Jr and Mayme Bertha (nee Robertson) Bagby, and graduated from Antigo High School, Class of 1935. Bob attended Carroll College in the late 1930s, until volunteering for the draft in February 1941. He served in the Pacific with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and was stationed in Oahu, Sipan and Okinawa. He returned to Waukesha in 1947 and worked for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance co. He married Myrtle S. Smith in 1947 and they live together for 56 years until Myrtle's death Aug. 8, 2003. They raised three daughters, making homes throughout the United States and abroad. Bob served in the Army Reserves until recalled to active duty in October 1950. He was assigned to the chief of engineers office in Washington, D.C., and spent a year in Korea. He remained in the military and was sent to Paris in 1957 with an advisory group in the American Embassy. From 1961 until his retirement in 1965, he served as an adviser to the North Dakota Army National Guard. Lt. Col. Robert T. Bagby gave his country 20 years of military service. Bob was active in the Waukesha Jaycees, serving as president in 1947, and received a "key man" award for his work. He was a member of the Wuakesha Optimist club for 38 years, Waukesha Lodge of Elks No. 400, American Legion Daniel J. Martin Post 8 and volunteered his services to Old World Wisconsin and Meals on Wheels for 15 years. Bob was also a long time member of the First United Methodist church. He will be sadly missed by his daughters, the late Diane Bagby (Alan) Haehle of Waukesha, Kathleen Bagby (Gene) Prigge of Madison, and Laurel Bagby (Jonathan) Harshaw of Fort Collins, Colo.; grandchildren Stephanie (Brad) Dettman of Waukesha, Heather (Cris) Crowley of Minneapolis, Taylor and Turner Harshaw of Fort Collins, Colo.; and great-grandchildren Hayley and Zachary Dettman and Alexis Crowley. He is further survived by his sisters, Beth Aulik of Pelican lake and Marguerite Bralick of Waukesha, and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle; his daughter, Diane Lynn Haehle; his grandson, Matthew Haehle; his sister, Jean Boteler; his nephew, Peter Aulik; and brothers-in-law John Bralick, Bob Boteler and Keith Aulik.

Visitation and services will be held from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 25 at Randle-Dable Funeral Home, 1110 S Grand Ave in Waukesha. A full military service burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha..... "Robert T. Bagby spent his life serving his country, family, friends and community. His smile, good humor and steadfast devotion will long be remembered by all who knew him."
