William N.Strong was soldier in the 12th LA infantry for the Confederate States of America. His record is rather remarkable in that he apparently never went home during his three years of service and was "at his post" when the end came in North Carolina on April 26, 1865. He was enrolled in Claiborne Parish's Company G, 12th Louisiana Infantry which was recruited in early 1862 and joined the regiment at Fort Pillow. William N. STRONG was accounted for on all surviving Company G muster rolls and received his final parole in North Carolina on 28 APR 1865. Williams GG Grandson said the William said he was a sniper that shot from the tree tops in the war.
He was released on parole at Greensboro under the terms of Johnston/ Sherman surrender agreement and allowed to go home. He also did not sign a Oath of Allegance, but may have later signed Allegiance to restore his property right and right to vote.
William N Strong married Mary Frances Mitchell and soon moved to Texas.
Susan Cornelia Strong ( William's Sister) married William Isaac Mitchell, ( Mary Frances Mitchell and William Isaac Mitchell were brother and sister). . William N. Strong died Dec. 23rd, 1919 at age 73 in Jones County, Texas.
